This is apparently a widely-used expression in French but I can't work out exactly what it means.
The context I have encountered it in is a brief article on a blues music festival:
"Le Blues a cette force de réunir les passionnés connaisseurs comme les dilettantes, le public de la première heure comme la jeune génération."
What is the contrast being made?
