Definition
A rule that governs the extent to which parties to a case may introduce into court evidence of a prior or contemporaneous agreement in order to modify, explain, or supplement the contract at issue. The rule states that where the parties to a contract intended for their written agreement to be the full and final expression of their bargain (i.e., the writing is an integration), other written or oral agreements that were made prior to or simultaneous with the writing are inadmissible for the purpose of changing the terms of the original agreement.

Ez az entire agreement/teljes megállapodás kikötéshez kapcsolódik, és a jogi írások szerint nem csupán a szóbeli bizonyítékra korlátozódik, hanem bármilyen külső bizonyítékot jelent. Szóbelit csak abban a nagyon korlátozott és specifikus értelmében lehetne használni, hogy "a szerződésben írásban nem rögzített".

Az alábbi forrás, a válaszomban már megadott meghatározás mellett, felsorakoztat egy pár kivételt is, amiből szintén kitűnik, hogy jelentése "külső bizonyíték":

There are some exceptions to the parol evidence rule. Evidence of the following is admissible:
1. Defects in the formation of the contract (such as fraud, duress, mistake or illegality).
2. The parties’ intent regarding ambiguous terms in the contract.
3. Problems with the consideration (e.g., the consideration was never paid).
4. A prior valid agreement that is incorrectly reflected in the written instrument in question.
5. A related agreement, if it does not contradict or change the main contract.
6. A condition that had to occur before contract performance was due.
7. Subsequent modification of the contract.

Ha csupán szóbeli bizonyítékot jelentene, akkor az előző vagy más írásbeli megállapodásokat vagy különböző tényeket értelemszerűen nem kellene, nem lehetne kivételként rögzíteni, mert eleve kizártak lennének.

Mivel több szótárban is pontosan így van benne (Angol-magyar jogi értelmező szótár p. 185, Angol-magyar jogi, kormányzati politikai értelmező szótár p. 368) és az angol kifejezést a Black's Law Dictionary is ennek értelmében határozza meg, nem látom értelmét, hogy újabb kifejezést keressünk rá.
