I think the text is not clear. Perhaps it is missing an s on onslaught, not sure. You guys may be building another piece. That is probably not right.

To be honest, I believe this is a figure of speech, meaning that summer was also affected (slowly died, disappeared) by the death of the bear. In fact, to me, it makes perfect sense with the sentence that follows "Timelines were nonexistent, as if everyone had been too busy chasing too many bears to remember."But that's just me and I am no poet or writer :)

Hello Nick, Cristina and all... It's really weird. And it doesn't match the style of the rest of the text, which is pretty straightforward. I actually gave up, and e-mailed the author, and very politely asked her to tell me what she meant. I'm waiting for her answer, and will tell you if she does. If not, I'll just write something like "O verão passou, e a matança continuou"... Thank you so much!

I suppose "bled" replaces "merged" or "melded".
So the Summer onslaught (of bear/bears - was it one or more - and if it was they bled together - literally and figuratively)
I must admit, as poetry it pretty well sucks if it is so ambiguous :-)

Hi Nick,
I suppose the author is trying to convey the violence of the bear’s slaughter versus the seemingly indifference of the people “as if everyone had been too busy chasing too many bears to remember”.
Since everyone else moved on, I figure the author tried to mirror the bear’s pained death to the summer itself by making it bleed alongside the bear.
That's just my two cents.
