German term or phrase: Die Klinikleiter
Dear all,

Context: Corporate governance/compliance with the legislative (and perhaps regulatory? Haven't read that much of the text yet) framework in the medical industry. Setting: University Hospital (this is how they refer to their operations in English, original term: Universitätsklinik).

Does this make sense?

Source: Wie in jedem anderen Unternehmen auch müssen die ***Klinikleiter*** sich selbst legal verhalten und dafür sorgen, dass alle Mitarbeiter sich ebenfalls legal verhalten.

Für die Universitätsklinik wurden 3.1111 Rechtspflichten ermittelt.
Der Vorstand ist nicht in der Lage über 3.111 Pflichten der Klinik höchstpersönlich zu erfüllen.

Target: As at every other company, the ***members of the Executive Board*** also need to conduct themselves in a legal manner and ensure that all the employees likewise conduct themselves in a legal manner.

Thanks and best regards,

Sebastian Witte

hospital managers

Explanation:
Hi,
'members of the executive board' is too specific, IMO. This is more of a general reference to those running the hospital's operations, and you've already seen that the preferred translation for 'Klinik' here is 'hospital'.

Certainly in the UK, the term 'hospital manager' sounds perfectly idiomatic.

Example sentence(s):
  • Almost 8,000 NHS hospital managers and consultants were paid six-figure salaries last year...

neutral  Eleanore Strauss: in Germany, Klinik generally refers to a hospital. But University Hospitals are commonplace in the US

Explanation:
You don't have to use a term that's more technical and narrow than the German..

As any other corporate entity, hospital managers have to..

act within the law..

BTW, that some perceive the term 'managers' to be misused in German has absolutely no bearing on whether or not this translation is correct. Completely separate issues.

Hi Stephen!
I am still partial to the term ‘manager’ – whether hospital managers or soccer coaches. I’m routing for Germany, of course, but if NI pull off a deserved upset, I’ll be the first to congratulate them.
