Absolutely not! That quite changes the meaning.
It means the footprint of the laboratories (which are in the basement) — obviously they can't say 'au sol' for something that is underground, but the concept remains the same. So it might be 'footprint of basement laboratories' or some variant on that idea. Or even, to use your own wrods 'area of undergound laboratories' — but it's important to remember that 'laboratory area' would be ambiguous and lead to confusion. I'm also not entirely sure if 'underground' is really the right way to take it, but only you can tell that from you wider context. |
