This if from a letter sent by an associate at a law firm to the firm's partners. Does it simply refer to fees?

Retrocession fees are the kickbacks, trailer, or finders fees that are paid to advisers or distributors from asset managers. Such payments are made from client money, but are often not disclosed to clients.

It is basically a fee-sharing arrangement - and one that has been criticised - in which money is given back to marketers for their efforts in raising money for the product.

Critics suggest such a system encourages advisers to promote funds or products not because they are the most suitable for end-investors, but because they will receive a fee.

I agree with F. Boye's fee-sharing arrangements - which begs the question of a conditional ('no win, no fee' > valid in the UK) or contingent fee (not valid in the UK, but US) splitting-of-the-spoils arrangement.

A secret commission can also be disguised as a retrocession.

Asker: The kind of arrangement my research suggests is that a "collaborateur" (an associate) does the job, but the fees are paid to the law firm, which then pays the associate a certain amount. The payment is made annually to the associate in the form of a bonus. This seems to be widespread in France
