Spanish term or phrase: chupar rata
Can anybody help me with this phrase!

Context: It appears in an informal e-mail.

Te traté de llamar pero no contestaste... derepente estabas chupando rata...

The source is Latin American Spanish, I don't know what country the Speaker is from. The person getting the e-mail is from Venezuela.

I found references to sexual connotations but I feel this is just a way of saying "you were busy with something"... Could that be the case? If so, is there an equivalent colorful expression in English?

Thanks!

Explanation:
You're correct. This idiomatic expression does indeed carry strong sexual connotations, most specifically in Peru.

I've partially censored the answer to avoid any disrespect towards ProZ's policies, though I believe it's relatively easy to spot where the expression goes. You'll be able to find more information to confirm it at the link provided below.

Apparently, it would be a Chilean term but I do not know the meaning.
