Senza altro contesto, io la renderei così. Il senso mi sembra quello di "trarre vantaggio" (in particolare fingendo o esagerando), per qualche scopo ulteriore, che qui non è chiaro.

Mmmh... in questo caso forse userei le virgolette ed esagererei la cosa, tipo "aveva sfruttato al massimo le 'ferite subite/ricevute sul campo'", per darle un tono scherzoso.

Se vuoi proprio usare qualcosa di diverso, io andrei con "medaglia" più che "trofeo", tipo: "Si era appuntato al petto quelle ferite come fossero una medaglia", anche se diventa più transcreation che traduzione...

Asker: Alle volte in effetti diventa transcreation. In questo caso però non è probabilmente necessario. Ci sono altri punti che devono riprendere colore in italiano. Come sempre, mille grazie :)

devo dire che "ferite" non mi convince tanto, mi pare un po' eccessivo per dei ragazzini delle medie che si prendono a botte (mica saranno andati di coltello?!), penso a qualche livido e al classico occhio pesto, però magari aggiungendo "riportate in combattimento/nello scontro" si conferisce un tocco ironico che sta bene con "ferite"...

o forse anche "dei segni/lividi lasciati dalla scazzottata" (ma si va a interpretare e modificare sempre di più l'originale...)

ah be', se ha un braccio e una costola rotti, non sono semplici lividi come immaginavo, eppure "ferite" continua a stonarmi un po', collego il termine a tagli, lacerazioni e perdita di sangue, ma forse è un problema mio.
magari "fratture" o "danni"...
