English term or phrase: hedonic impact
Recent work by Kent Berridge indicates that the electrodes may have activated the anatomical regions that are involved in desire rather than pleasure. When Berridge manipulated rodents’ dopamine levels, he found that although they did try to get to the reward much more quickly than normal rodents, their facial expressions remained unchanged. From his earlier work, Berridge knew that this is not what would be expected if dopamine really elicits pleasure. In another set of elegant experiments, Berridge found that stimulation of specific parts of the rat brain contribute to the hedonic impact of sweet-ness, food, and drug rewards.
