French term or phrase: (se) donner à voir

Hallo!
Ich bin immer noch an meinem Text, in dem ein Fotograf seine fotografische Dokumentation einer Großbaustelle beschreibt. Der Ausdruck "se donner à voir" kommt an zwei Stellen vor:

... la photographie est souvent constituée d'images dont on croit qu'elles se donnent à voir pour ce qu'elles sont: de simples images d'une représentation immédiatement perceptible par tous.

und

Und zu einem Foto von frischem Beton: Ce béton ne donne lui-même rien à voir de ce qu'il représentera sur la photographie, de ce qu'il sera une vois sec ....

Ich dachte an "offenbaren", als im ersten Fall: "dass sie offenbaren, was sie sind, nämlich" ... und im zweiten Fall: "Dieser Beton offenbart nichts davon, was er einmal auf der Fotografie darstellen wird ...."

Aber vielleicht hat ja noch jemand eine bessere Idee.
