the terms to be distinguished:

I suspect that Context 2 is probably different from 1 and 3 as it talks about latching points.
Regarding Context 1 & 3, I understand that I push the button on the knob, and the lock gets locked.
However, there are 2 possibilities:
(a) when such a button is pushed, the lock cannot be unlocked from the other side even with a key, or
(b) the door is locked but can be unlocked from the other side with a key.

What would be the right terms in English for Possibilities (a) and (b)?

Thank you!

"Condamnation" can also be translated as "deadlock", but that is more correctly "serrure à pêne dormant".

This reference shows a "Serrure à encastrer sans condamnation," i.e. without either a deadlock or a deadlatch. So, perhaps the best description is a non-locking door latch. You wouldn't want anyone accidentally locking themselves in the cellar. On the other hand, you equally wouldn't want someone on the outside either accidentally or deliberately locking another person in the cellar.

Thank you, deadlatch wins over privacy lock as a privacy lock seems to be a lock based on the deadlatch

Explanation:
Hello,

I'm not that much in French, but I thought this idea might be of a help for you.

l'intérieur avec un bouton : kind of an internal lock, that could despense the key (like the car door lock)

wish the very best.

disagree  Daryo: "privacy" is not the point especially in "points de condamnation" which can be about any door

neutral  Didier Fourcot: I guess you confused the outside lock with a "condamnation" and the lock described on point 3 of context, that is a privacy lock for an interior door, for example bathroom

-> A deadlatch (unlike a deadbolt) is what you often have on the inside of a bathroom door and is a device that stops the latch operated by the door handle from opening. An alternative is a deadlock operated by a twist knob, usually below the latch.

agree  Daryo: locking points / bolts going into the door frame
