Obviously without more context we cannot say anything definitively, but I don't understand why 'feedback' would only apply to interviewees (as suggested by Daryo). I understood it as feedback from the teacher to the students about how well they conducted their interviews (since interviewing people is a skill they are learning). Or, indeed, it could be feedback from the students themselves, discussing as a group how the interviews went. The idea of 'reconstruction' also makes sense, but as a learning activity listed on a syllabus, surely the educational value would be analysing the pros and cons following said reconstruction, i.e. getting feedback from the teacher or fellow students on performance. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that 'feedback' is definitely the solution - I just don't quite follow the argument against it.

Hi Daryo,
"Restitution" within the meaning of your reference source, and in the meaning of one of my degree courses is generaly much more than simply trying to recall what happened and/or reproducing the interview. In contexts I am familiar with, that is humanities, it is about treating the data collected and presenting it is some useful, exploitable form, which may or may not include statistical analysis; for example. However, it may have some other meaning in this managerial studies context. I don't think we know enough to be adamant about the meaning you describe above or the meaning in your reference source (which is the same as the meaning I'm familiar with, i.e. part of methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis). I suspect that is is about methods for students reporting in one way or another on interviews carried out, but I may be wrong as I am not familiar with the context of management courses.

the "restitution" (restitution des entretiens réalisés par les étudiants) is done in the classroom without any of the interviewees around [no one to give "feedback" to], students are trying to recollect/reproduce these interviews;

I can't see what other scenario would make much sense, without stretching the meaning of words beyond breaking point?

In social psychology classes in my “licence” last year, we had a whole semester on interviewing techniques and restitution is an important part of that process… for the students. It involves techniques of how best to handle the information collected and can include written or oral reports, stats, and a whole host of other things. In a management context, this could be about techniques on reporting to hierarchical superiors.

I think you need to know who is doing the “restitution” in order to choose the right term and to be able to produce un unambiguous translation. Otherwise, you stick to something neutral and equally ambiguous!

Feedback/reporting from the tutor on the student’s interview exercise? Or is this part of the exercise students are doing? Suggestions of feedback, review and reporting may be quite helpful. Without further context, I don't think you can be sure. Feedback, may be an undertranslation; reconstruction may be an overtranslation. I was just wondering if you have further detail about what is actually invovled? Perhaps further on in the original?
In the phrase "restitution des entretiens réalisés par les étudiants", the interviews (masc. singular) have clearly been carried out by the students. However, it could be either the tutor or the students who are concerned with the restitution.

Since it is taking about the teaching methods for the course, it might be some sort of reconstruction thing where the students act out various scenarios?
