The following is from a collective agreement between a trade union and an employer:
Den anställde skall inneha det certifikat, som av vederbörande myndigheter krävs för den tjänstgöring han/hon används till av företaget.
Kostnaderna för certifikatets vidmakthållande bestrids av företaget.
Om den anställde av företaget/behörig myndighet beordras undergå läkarundersökning utöver de för certifikatets erhållande resp. bibehållande undersökningarna, bekostas dylik extra undersökning av företaget.

I only know "bestrids" in the sense of "to dispute", but that doesn't seem to make sense in this context.

Any help would be appreciated.

agree  Charles Ek: Time to invest in a better dictionary, Mr. Kennan. ;-) Gullberg's SV>EN fackordbok has among other entries: "bestrida kostnader – to bear (cover, defray) expenses; bestrida sina egna kostnader – to bear one's own costs"
