My bad, actually the : oeuvre solaire is about another previous album. Not the one I posted a utube link for.
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/incandescent I am sticking with the above. But thanks a lot all. Wonder if I can give a point to each??? Stellar is nice, but still gives out a white and colder feeling to me...
I realise that, but I was just thinking of the spiritual connotations of the sun, and the fact that with music that is sublime, and when music and other arts are seen to be of a high quality, they are often described in that transcendental sort of way.
Much as I agree that those two ideas could be tidily brought together with something like the terms you suggest, and in spite of the fact that religious allusions are much more casually used in (British) English than in French, I'd be wary about bringing one in if there's nothing else like it in the text.
I think that Charles' "very different ideas", do actually have a connection: "Qui éblouit, qui illumine l'esprit" "Qui est conforme à un idéal de mesure et de sérénité"
I think a word on the lines of something suggesting "celestial" or "heavenly light" would cover both, i.e. religious connotation. But I cannot think of the word right now. (Incandescent reflects the "brightness" idea, but not necessarily the fact that the sun can suggest something spiritual, celestial or religious.) I like Jane's "uplifting", this is more suggestive than "incandescent" is to me, but I am aware the "brightness" element could get lost.
@ Lara I'm not sending the translation off until tomorrow morning, but have chosen 'incandescent' for now (luminous is actually used a line later in the text). Why? Would you have another idea?
Thank you to all those who contributed. I think I shall take off on the idea of light and fire with the word "incandescent" which was over used by the critics at one point but certainly seems to be quite a good fit...
Well it is about a female drummer who composes her own pieces with a pianist and a singer... un oeuvre solaire, une personne solaire, are often used in French, just never had to translated it yet...
Explanation: After all discussions, I decided to give my own idea. I see this word as holding the brightness and light element of the sun, with the potential of covering any spiritual aspect there may or may not be.
