German term or phrase: Strahlengleisen
I am having difficulty finding a suitable English equivalent for the word "Strahlengleisen", which refers to a type of rails that emanate from the turntable as shown in this image:

http://up.picr.de/21474973mi.jpg

Here is the context of the word:

Der Halbrundschuppen mit seinen 25 ***Strahlengleisen***, funktionstüchtiger Drehscheibe, Dampflokomotiven, Schienenfahrzeugen, Draisinen u.v.m. erwartet Sie.

I've checked several glossaries online to no avail. Any assistance is appreciated as always. This is for a UK audience, by the way.

Strahlengleis
radial stub track

Explanation:
These are stub tracks, although this doesn't cover the "Strahlen" aspect. Maybe radial stub tracks?

Just an idea to get the ball rolling.

agree  philgoddard: You were first. I don't think it matters whether you say stub or not.

radial tracks

Explanation:
The Turntable, situated beyond the Engine Shed, is used to ensure that tender locomotives in particular are facing in the direction of travel.
:
The Turntable is 70 feet (21m) long and is capable of accommodating the largest tender engines. It is operated by hand either directly by pushing on extension levers or by operating a geared winding mechanism
http://www.didcotrailwaycentre.org.uk/guide/engineshed.html

In 1861, the first shed was closed and demolished to make way for track realignment, and the second shed was also closed and absorbed into the adjacent Locomotive Workshops. A new brick built, sixteen track straight dead-end shed with a multi-pitched style slate roof was constructed and was located at the North end of Brighton station in the fork of the London and Shoreham railway lines.

Each railway company had its own architectural design of engine shed but there were three basic designs of shed:

• Roundhouse - where the tracks would radiate from a turntable
• Straight - a number of tracks that would be accessible from either end
• Dead End - a number of sidings accessible from one end only

The turntables for straight and dead end sheds were generally outside. Those in roundhouses could be inside (such as those at York in the Uk) or outside such as that at the East Broad Top Railroad & Coal Company Roundhouse, Rockhill, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, USA.

In late 1950, as work progressed removing the retired portion of the structure, and the associated radial tracks between the roundhouse and the turntable, the decision was made to locate the new diesel and turbine repair shop at Salt Lake City.

A turntable of moment of inertia I0 rotates freely on a hollow vertical axis. A cart of mass m runs without friction on a straight radial track on the turntable.
http://www.feynmanlectures.info/exercises/turntable_cart.htm...

The main issue isn't getting the turntable in motion, it's doing a precision stop so as to line up the tracks on the bridge with the destination radial track of choice. Machismo requires that you neither overrun nor underrun the target track. For this reason we normally use two people to operate the turntable -- to provide precision stopping power.

The longest radial track in Roundhouse Park will stretch from the turntable to the north-east corner of Roundhouse Park.
http://www.trha.ca/trha/building-the-long-radial-track/

The motor shaft with it's friction coating is about a 1/4" in diameter which means it moves about .002" per step and this is very nearly the accuracy where the turntable track meets the radial track(s).
