Italian term or phrase: umidità di controspinta
This concept came up in the context of instructions for use for an anti-mould treatment. I'm not sure what it means. I wondered at first if it was another way of saying rising damp but that wouldn't make sense as that's exactly when you would want to apply it! Does have something to do with not applying it if the surface is in direct contact with water? Is there an elegant way of saying this in English?

moisture migrating outward

Explanation:
This is just trying to rewrite the concept in more ordinary language as I understand it. This solution is a little more general than rising damp because I guess the moisture/humidity source could be on the other side of a wall or even infiltrating from above. If the Italian term is a genuine technical expression, then this probably isn't quite right. Good luck!

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks, I went with the technical term as it seemed appropriate in the context but your suggestion is welcome nonetheless!

Note to reference poster
Asker: I've followed your lead and looked at retaining walls and wonder now whether it could mean the same as hydrostatic pressure. Counter-thrust humidity doesn't seem a very common term. http://newtonwaterproofing.co.uk/solutions/waterproofing-retaining-walls/
