Salve a tutti,
vorrei chiedervi un suggerimento relativo alla traduzione di "contratto di donazione". Qual è secondo voi la traduzione più appropriata negli Stati Uniti? "Gift agreement for moveable property"? "Deed of gift for moveable property"?

Grazie in anticipo!

English translation:movable property donation contract
Explanation:
Or contract concerning a donation of movable property.
You could also say "deed", but as there's an exact English equivalent of "contratto" you may as well use it.

Asker: Thanks! I think your answer may be appropriate, as in this case we are talking about a gift to a religious organisation (so, the term "donation" is more appropriate, also according to my research). I'm still in doubt between "deed" or "contract".

Asker: According to my research, it seems that "gift" and "donation" are used as synonyms.

Asker: A Gift Deed is a legal document that describes voluntary transfer of gift from donor (owner of property) to donee (receiver of gift) without any exchange of money. The donor must be solvent and should not use this tool for tax evasion and illegal gains

Asker: I think I'm going to use "movable property gift Agreement". It seems to be the most "neutral" translation, as it is not a deed, but in US law we can't talk about a "contract" neither.

Tks, Claudia for your detailed definition which explains why such a document must be done in the form of a deed under seal: precisely to avoid tax evasion and illegal gains. An ordinary contract between two companies may be concluded simply under the signature of the parties'representatives and not necessarily under notarial seal

Right. For me gift/donation - contract/agreement are synonyms, maybe what is most important is where your translation will be used, so that the user or the beneficiary may use it for the intended purpose

Asker: Yes, I've found that link too, but I'm still unsure weather to use "deed" or "Agreement". May be they are both correct...

Asker: Yes, but in this case the contract is made in Italy and it is governed by the Italian law (donor's state). So, may be contract is more appropriate

Asker: The translation will be used in the US, but the original has been written in Italy and is governed by the Italian law.

Asker: I think I'm going to use "movable property gift Agreement". It seems to be the most "neutral" translation, as it is not a deed, but in US law we can't talk about a "contract" neither.

neutral  philgoddard: Not "tangible".

neutral  Adrian MM. (X): a deed under seal is required in EN not IT law where there is no consideration = payment.// It's called a gift in EN law. Donations are made to charities, museums & art galleries. In US fed. law, a deed refers to a coveyance of land only.

-> donation means no payment (free of charge giving) in any kind of law; a deed has to be done because there is a transfer of property rights involved; it is not an ordinary contract like the commercial ones, where the parties stipulate rights & liabilities
