Thank you for your posting, Johannes. I am a German/Japanese translator and am aware that the Google machine translation is available. Off couse I checked the English machine translation. But I am asking you to make sure because I am not sure if the English machine translation for Wäschesperre is appropriate.

Has anybody a Miele tumble drier manual on desk?

The term "Wäschesperre" pops up only in references for Miele. And only these pages provides an equivalent tem in English. What can be deducted from this? Is it a unique device or provision for Miele driers?

The term "Wäschesperre" is unique for Miele anyway and probably invented by its staff. As former approval engineer in the electrical household branch (16 years) and factory inspector (7 years) I never heard of such device.

This origin explains why no other translation can be found. But the device or function may be incorporated in driers from other brands, too, and its designation can be retrieved or confirmed by identifying the item and consulting relevant English manuals from Miele and or other manufacturers.

What to do, if nobody is able to do this or has a corresponding manual? I would stay with the given translation. This is true in particular as the context for the asked term is identical to that of my first reference.

Machine translation or not, the fact that Miele did not alter it can be regarded as approval.

It seems to prevent clothes from being sucked into the air exhaust/outlet. But I may be wrong.
'trap' or 'barrier' may or may not be appropriate. Normally there is a lint trap. Here the Schublade 8 seems to act as a clothes or laundry trap?

I can't really make head or tail of this, but does it stop washing from entering/getting tangled up with something? It presumably doesn't mean washing as in cleaning, since this is a dryer.

Considering the different patents with figures, it should also be possible to circumscribe the function without translating this rare term. You will see, that most tumble driers have a similar device to prevent clothes, esp. small parts like underwear and lints to be swallowed by the vent outlet. The technical details may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but all have sieves, screens, filters, etc.
