the gateway through which Satan renders/ makes our work/achievements stagnant

Explanation:
but we must avoid them becoming the gateway through which Satan renders/ makes our work/achievements stagnant

to stagnate or to be stagnant is often used for the economy figuratively (the cah no longer flows)

The millionaire writer must be implying that Satan does his work through the poor by draining resources from the church....quite a harsh view but that's what he/she seems to be saying

a doorway through which Satan holds back our works

Explanation:
I have no particular problem with other answers. My choice is more lexical than anything else.
Where Satan comes in to keep you away from God is apparently often called a door or a doorway. . If you google "a doorway for Satan", you will find numerous references.
In the same way, I have put "works" in the plural to echo/evoke the "good works" that Christians are enjoined to engage in.

agree  Charles Davis: I think these are both good ideas, and that this calls for a free translation (esp. "porte"), otherwise it will sound very unnatural. (What a repellent remark, by the way!)

the means whereby the devil himself can stifle our work

Explanation:
I'm not sure why, but I just prefer the devil to Satan (if you see what I mean). "Himself" is an addition which makes the sentence flow better, IMO. "Suffocate" might work instead of "stifle", and I'm not convinced that the typically French metaphor of a door or gateway works as well in English.
