Quite apart from it being unlikely that the position of the engine brake valve neds to be mounted, what does motorfest montieren mean?

"motorfest" does not necessarily mean that it must be mounted securely or rigidly, but that it must be mounted to the engine. The focus is on "motor", not on "fest". Same for "rahmenfest".
As you know, I work with patents, and this sort of thing crops up a lot there. More often than not, it is used to mean fixed to the engine/frame or rigidly connected to the engine/frame, etc. However, sometimes the idea is fixed (in position) relative to the engine/frame. I'll post some examples in the reference section.

...about the author understanding "Motor" as all the main parts in the "Motorraum"? Considering "Positionierung," I would not be surprised that you're overthinking it.

which brings me back to my original idea that the author used the term for anything that should be firmly/tightly/snugly/solidly attached/affixed/mounted.
seems to be contradicted by this: Die Motorbremsklappe wird nach dem Abgaskrümmer am Abgasturbolader-Austritt motorfest montiert. Clearly "am Abgasturbolader-Austritt", which kind or rules out "fest am Motor".
I guess I understand it now. Still leaves open the question about "Positionierung," i.e. either a grammatical error or the wrong word (if not wrong, at least unfortunate - I don't like Positionierung being used as a replacement for Halterung).
I see, and I probably gave a wrong or unclear explanation. I just wanted to point out that the basic meaning is "mounted to the engine", and that "fest" is not the main component of the word.
It's Google. Sometimes, I've seen that if your settings are EN (like my better half has it), search results differ. Did you ever experience that?
Do agree with your version more than with the other one, though. If it's motorfest, it should at least not slide off, which basically means firmly attached. Thus, I am not quite sure I understand Michael's added note.
After playing this game, you'll notice that the author probably just misused a word. It should've been Halterung für die Motorklappe (which does exist) and this Halterung needs to be mounted onto the engine.
The German sentence is grammatically wrong. Is this a confused native speaker or a document that has already been translated before?

In view of the evidence, I would say it means mounted, pre-mounted or installed, firmly engine-mounted, frame-mounted. In any case the part that is being referred to is already unshakeably mounted to whatever it is supposed to be mounted to. And I disagree that the 'fest' is superfluous, it could even be an insurance issue for the author(s).
Okay, I've tried a plethora of search topics and they turn up absolutely nothing. I think the word is the author's creation. Linguee, however turns up with engine-mounted. Perhaps that's an option. Engine-mounted, frame-mounted.

Is this a manual for garage assembly? It appears the author has a penchant for things being 'fest'. I don't know much about motors, but loads about 'fest'. Googling 'motorfest' turns up diddlysquat, and Linguee is not the most reliable source. Manuals are often highly redundant. Can any of the parts that should be motorfest or rahmenfest susceptible to loosening?
