sediment not visible Explanation: First of all, it's sediment, not sedimentation. Sedimentation is the process whereby solid elements in suspension settle to the bottom. Sediment is what is left at the bottom of the flask when the urine is centrifuged and decanted. Normally the lab describes the sediment in detail - the amount of red and white blood cells, crystals, casts and anything else noted. It is not the job of the lab technician to comment on whether or not the sediment is "inconspicuous". The sediment may not be seen for a variety of technical reasons. Most likely, the urine sample was too small. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day20 hrs (2015-11-02 04:55:14 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- ...or the sample may have been too dilute to produce adequate sediment, as with someone who has been drinking lots of water or who has diabetes insipidus. |
