I understand what this means but I'm not sure what the term is. I thought of state coffers, but I'm not sure.


Antaño las dependencias de este convento fueron elegidas por las Cortes del Reino para guardar las arcas del Depósito del Reino, que hemos visto anteriormente en el Palacio Real.
Departamento de la administración propia que se encargaba de custodiar los capitales de las rentas más dispares de los navarros, desde mayorazgos a capellanías y demás.
Esta institución desarrolló funciones bancarias bajo la tutela pública, en su época quizás la única en toda Europa.
Los dueños de capitales sacaban el dinero que habían depositado en sus arcas, para prestarlo a quien considerasen conveniente, al interés corriente del momento.
El Reino respondía de la custodia de este dinero, y podía recurrir al mismo para adelantar inversiones de determinada intensidad, particularmente a partir del siglo XVI, estando Navarra ya ocupada, cuando se trataba de pagar a la corona española el denominado donativo gracioso y voluntario.
Siempre quedaba un remanente para atender las necesidades de capital que sentían los propios depositantes; casi siempre para prestar a diferentes personas que lo precisaban.
