ER admissions waiting room

Explanation:
As before, this is the inner waiting room where patients are placed after it has been ascertained they will be admitted. They are then assessed by special medical staff not involved in actual ER triage unless required by a large-scale emergency. Since it is a socialised healthcare system, different Drs rotate in and out all the time and specialists are called in from other wards for consultation as needed for the upcoming pre-admission examination. Clearly this patient did not have life-threatening symptoms requiring triage or emergency care but was going to be admitted directly for treatment of cardiac failure symptoms.

The Emergency Department Process

Unless you come by ambulance, the first stop in your visit is triage. Triage is a process used in the Emergency Department to check everyone and decide who needs to see the doctor first. While there, an RN will take your blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate and temperature and ask you about your medical problem.

When you are called to the exam room, another will talk to you again about your medical situation. The staff asks many questions because the more we know about you, your general health and the reason you have come to the Emergency Department, the easier it will be for us to treat you quickly and safely.

Patients in higher priority levels get directed to the exam room for visit and examination by physicians.

THE ED PROCESS

Upon presenting to the Emergency Department, all patients must be registered by the patient or a family member/caregiver accompanying the patient. The patient will then participate in the triage process. The triage assessment is performed by a Registered Nurse. The order in which patients are seen is dependent upon the severity of their injury/illness. It is not dependent upon arrival time.

Once a patient has been taken to the exam room, the family members/caregivers will be asked to wait until an initial medical assessment and treatment have begun before they may enter the patient care area. T
