Various "takes" on the situation. As the context says that the "atestado...indicou a necessidade de adequação", it seems to me that the certification found a situation that was less than ideal, that did not comply fully with NR10, and therefore some adjustment of the situation is needed. That's how I understood it!

Acho que "adequação" implica algum tipo de reforma. Se já existia um sistema que não atendia às normas e teve de ser revisto para atender, aí seria uma adequação. Mas se a entidade fez tudo certinho desde o início a fim de atender às normas e não foi advertida ou julgada inadequada, então será "compliance" (palavra até difícil de se traduzir com precisão para o PT).

Thank you for your comments. I see you are having the same 'brainstorming section' I had in my office. What a day! Tom mentioned context that made me change my mind when using 'compliance' and go for what Martin suggested. Mario, on the other hand, came up or back with 'compliance' which is a very 'used' term by this client (corporate language), but regarding this specific job, I am still not sure. For me, the need for 'adequação' sounds like having old equipment and the need for upgrade based on the new regulations.

I would agree with you. The phrase "O atestado anual NR10 indicou necessidade de 'adequação'." suggests that change is necessary and that is why I suggested "adaptation".

NR10 is a regulatory standard. If their annual audit/inspection has indicated the need to change something in accordance with NR10, then I would choose "adaptation".

If not and this is just a general point, I would choose "compliance", since in a more general sense, the purpose of a regulatory standard is always to enforce compliance.
