Поясняю:

Будучи поставщиком сетевого оборудования, Cisco оперирует понятиями линейных карт и портов, поддерживающих интерфейсы с каналообразующим оборудованием трактов систем передачи (в общем случае), которые, собственно, и могут быть названы линиями (связи).

Т.к. инсталляция сетевого оборудования (если только оно не повисает в воздухе), естественным образом приводит к появлению и новых линий связи. Соответственно, количество проданных/инсталлированных карт с известным числом портов на каждой может быть легко персчитано в эквивалентные линии, о которых здесь, собственно и говорится.

Поскольку текст не является техническим описанием системы/устройства, “item” как “изделие/единица/(номенклатурная) позиция) и т.д., может быть опущена без всякого ущерба для понимания смысла.
