English translation: the quest for a wider readership

French term or phrase: recherche
'Cette production est soustendue par des logiques intellectuelles et éditoriales qui mêlent recherche d’un lectorat élargi, souci de toucher le public étudiant et volonté de décloisonnement historiographique.'

I would like to check whether 'reserche' has the meaning of 'seeking' or 'research' here. I think it's the former, but may be mistaken. Here's the translation I have so far ("Cette production" refers to environmental histories of the world as a publishing genre):

This body of work is underpinned by an intellectual and editorial emphasis that seeks a wider readership that is keen to reach out to the educated public and has a desire to decompartmentalize historiography.

This is the sense of 'recherche' here, but I've gone with 'pursuit' in the end. Thanks for the comments from polyglot45 and Nikki Scott-Despaigne, who helped me reach a much-improved translation of the whole sentence.

neutral  Daryo: just "search" could do - although it's not the most elegant option // in this ST it's not about "researching a topic"
