Medical - Medical (general) / screened
English term or phrase: screened

Muchas gracias:

“Method: This study consists of screening and then 1 dosing, followed by 12-weeks of observation period. Patients who provided written consent to study participation are screened and assessed for eligibility as subjets. Subjects are randomized to the study drug or control drug, administer the investigational product, and then make Week 3, Week 6, Week 12 visits to have efficacy and safety assessment.”

Explanation:
screening is used to select patients that either have or lack certain characteristics.

screening [skrēn´ing]
examination or testing of a group of individuals **to separate** those who are well from those who have an undiagnosed disease or defect or who are at high risk.
http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/screening

"There is no universally accepted definition of medical screening, but there is general agreement that the activity contains three elements:

1) It is ***a process of selection*** with the purpose of identifying those individuals who are at a sufficiently high risk of a specific disorder to warrant further investigation or sometimes direct preventive action. It is usually a preliminary process to offering a diagnostic test and, if required, preventive action.

2) It is systematically offered to a population who have not sought medical attention on account of symptoms of the disease for which screening is being conducted. It is normally initiated by medical authorities and not by a patient's request for help on account of a specific complaint.

3) Its purpose is to benefit the individuals being screened. On this basis, mass testing activities such as surveillance for HIV-infection or pre-employment examinations to test fitness for work would not be classified as medical screening.

In an attempt to encapsulate these elements the following definition is proposed:

Screening is the systematic application of a test or inquiry, to identify individuals at sufficient risk of a specific disorder to benefit from further investigation or direct preventive action, among persons who have not sought medical attention on account of symptoms of that disorder."
