fill (matériau de) charge Explanation: I am more used to seeing it as 'filler', but I'lm pretty sure here it is referring to the same thing. It may help you to look up 'filler' in both the KudoZ glossary and other reference sources like GDT, Termium, etc. in order to access the discussions and other options. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 jour12 minutes (2015-08-17 08:01:31 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Yes, that was of course VITAL extra context that we needed from the outset in order to avoid going off on a wild goose chase! So here, it is not 'fill' in the sense of 'filler' as I had initially imagined, but 'fill' in the sense of 'what the machine is filled with'. I half suspect, though, that the word 'charge' on its own may well still be what you need... |

"Obviously, a tower of infinite height would cost an infinite amount of money, More practically, structural limitations would begin to manifest themselves within the first feeble steps on the road to that infinite height. Early cooling tower designers quickly discovered these limitations, and devised the use of “fill” as a far better means of increasing not only the rate of heat transfer but its amount as well." -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day3 hrs (2015-08-17 10:58:14 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web... "The two basic types of fill utilized in present day cooling towers are splash-type (Fig. 1) and film-type (Fig. 2). Either type of fill may be used in towers of both crossflow and counterflow configuration, positioned within the towers as shown in Figures 3 and 4 respectively. both types of fill exhibit advantages in varied operating situations, assuring that neither type is likely to endanger the continued utilization of the other." |
