French term or phrase: fermer le tour
This appears just in an instruction for crocheting a hat in a repetitive shell motif. It also appears as a title of the section.

"Fermer le tour:
Toujours fermer le tour pour éviter un décalage au changement de couleur. ...."

Would "closing the loop" be relevant here?

join the round
Explanation:
This is about crocheting a hat in the round. If you don't join the round with a slip stitch (maille coulée), you'll start to crochet in spirals and you'll get a "jog" at the colour changes.

Working Joined Rounds with Single Crochet
There are a couple of ways (known to me) of crocheting in rounds without turning your work. You can work in spiral rounds, where you do not join rounds but simply start each following round from the top of the first stitch of the round below. Alternatively, you can work in joined rounds, whereby the beginning of each round is raised with a chain, so the last stitch of the round ends up at the same level as the first stitch at the start of the round. The end of the round is joined to the start of the round with a slip stitch.

@Lara
You don't typically see 'fasten off the round' in crochet patterns. It's usually 'join' the round' first and then 'fasten off' (when changing colours or coming to the end of the project).

how to knit the single crochet bind off

Example sentence(s):
  • you’ll need to bind off its top stitches in order to prevent it from unraveling
  • After you bind off, work to the end of the row.

neutral  Sheri P: 'Binding off' is more of a knitting technique, as shown by your refs. 'Fastening off' is used in crochet, but that's not what is meant here.//Almost all refs. to 'binding off' on the www are to knitting. In any case, that's not the meaning here.

Asker: Your suggestion lead me to search further links. I found that, in view of further occurrences, "fastening off the round" worked (as in http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-fasten-off-yarn-in-crochet.html). Do you reckon I could use that?

neutral  Sheri P: This isn't specific enough. One 'completes rounds' even when crocheting in spirals. Here it's specified to join the round (with a slip stitch) in order to achieve 'jogless' colour changes.
