Tech/Engineering - Aerospace / Aviation / Space / actuator for aircraft nac
French term or phrase: poutraison
Hi,

"On a représenté à la fig...une nacelle de turboréacteur pour aéronef, qui s'étend axialement suivant un axe longitudinal.
La nacelle comporte une partie avant fixe qui comporte une poutraison centrale de fixation sur l'aéronef, et une partie arrière mobile qui est ici un volet d'inversion de poussée."

I have been using "beam" but would like to know if it could be something else (in this particular field obviously)

Thank you

Beam assembly
Explanation:
In aerospace "beam" is used a lot for "poutre". I suspect this is just a set of beams.

Asker: Thanks:) Yes I usually translate "poutre" by "beam" in this field, and since there arent any "poutres" in my text, "beam" might just do here

system of beams

Explanation:
NB Not girders, because girders are a particular type of beam (not necessarily present in an airframe?) and "poutraison" includes all types of beams.

agree  Bashiqa: Beams IMHO

neutral  kashew: No real argument v beam as it seems a sort of bulkhead, but system is vague AND I don't think an engineer/designer would use it in this context. That's why I used framework and accept Lucy's assembly. Half wrong, so I stay neutral instead of disagreeing
50 mins
-> It seems odd for a bulkhead to have a "poutraison". "System" means that the beams work in conjunction with each other to produce an outcome.

neutral  Lucy O'Shea: Yes, I think system sounds a bit mechanical Answer to BD Finch: now that's a contradiction in terms!!! Mechanical usually involves movement!
51 mins
-> Beams are mechanical in a static sort of way.// Not really, it's the direction and management of physical forces. There can be quite a lot of movement if a beam fails./www.jrgreer.caltech.edu/content/.../15_Cellular_Solid_Mecha... Mechanics of Beams
