Italian term or phrase: muta subacquea
I have a text about a system for making custom fit diving suits. My problem is that I would have translated this term as wetsuit but the next section has Muta Umida which would also seem like a wetsuit. How do I distinguish the two?

The texts both talk about protecting from cold but the "muta umida" talks about diving in "apnea" so I would assume without breathing apparatus.

Any ideas?

Under wetsuit, Wikipedia also says "This article is about the use of wetsuits in a range of water sports. For protective clothing specialized for scuba diving see Diving Suit" so it fits your description.

Hasn't your client actually just confirmed my answer? A wetsuit for scuba diving is called a diving suit!

wetsuit / drysuit (diving suit)

Explanation:
WETSUIT & DRYSUIT are both 'diving suits'

"Both types of diving suits are constructed to protect divers from the water and the elements, but they do so in different ways"

Hallo Eileen,
you are not contradicting me, rather you are confirming the proposed solutions. The above is a technical explanation. As you confirm it, a drysuit allows no water inside, because insulate the body differently.
The umbrella term is 'diving suit'

See wiki

"Modern diving suits can be divided into two kinds:
"soft" or ambient pressure diving suits - examples are wetsuits, dry suits, semi-dry suits and dive skins
"hard" or atmospheric pressure diving suits - an armored suit that permits a diver to remain at atmospheric pressure whilst operating at depth where the water pressure is high"

Ambient pressure suits are a form of exposure protection protecting the wearer from the cold. They also provide some defence from abrasive and sharp objects as well as potentially harmful underwater life. They do not protect divers from the pressure of the surrounding water or resulting barotrauma and decompression sickness.

There are five main types of ambient pressure diving suits:

dive skins
wetsuits
semi-dry suits
drysuits
hot water suits "

I may add that 'wetsuit' is just the most widespread term that everybody uses as a synonym for 'diving suit' without been aware of the existance of the term 'drysuit' (included me.. in the past..:-)) )

Notes to answerer
Asker: Sorry to contradict. It is not a drysuit. Both are wetsuits. I have since discovered one is a Scubadiving wetsuit, the other is a Spearfishing and freediving wetsuit. The diving in apnea is freediving. The reason they are both wetsuits is because they allow a film of water inside to help insulate the body. A drysuit allows no water inside. But I do thank you for your help
