There is a Mahfouz's famous quote:

‘Home is not where you were born. Home is where all your attempts to escape cease’.

The Arabic original: “وطن المرء ليس مكان ولادته و لكنه المكان الذي تنتهي فيه كل محاولاته للهروب”.

I need to find the source or book from which it is quoted, but after googling and googling, I failed.
Could someone help me? Thanks a lot.

As Charles says, it's Taher (عمر طاهر) not Mahfouz. It's a collection of short stories (with I think a few essay and poems). Apparently dealing mainly with absence/loss.

He seems to have read Julius Caesar, Act 2 Scene 2 :-) "البشر يموتون قبل أن يعيشون حياة واحدة حقيقية لانهم جبناء بالطبع يخشون المغامرة، أو لا يعرفون أن الحياة فرصة واحدة ".

agree  Charles Davis: Puzzled by your reference, where I can't find the quotation anywhere, but it is on this page about the same book: http://raffy.ws/books/view_book/13291/ (right tab).

  -> Thanks Charles. I think it was buried down in "spoilers" by one of the reviewers? The book doesn't seem to have been translated. The title translation is an interesting exercise in itself - "Now you're dragging your feet / changing your tune"?
