Vassiliki, 'Patchy' means 'in scattered areas', so you can say it in either way, but, for safety's sake, why not Google: "the white matter seems to be slightly hypodense in scattered areas..." - with the inverted commas - and see if anybody else has written the words in this way?

With regsrd to your comment to aggelpan, "Ευχαριστώ πολύ, αν και αυτό το "δίνεται η εντύπωση" που αφήνει μια αίσθηση αμφιβολίας. Δηλ. κάτι φαίνεται αλλά δεν είναι σίγουροι... και έτσι διστάζω να χρησιμοποιήσω το ρήμα "showed". Θα το δω καλύτερα... Καλή συνέχεια!', why not use the words, "It gives the impression of having patchy hypodense white-matter...."? In my opinion, this is what your text says.
