pênes

Explanation:
Both the refs below have useful illustrations

"Le pêne est la pièce métallique qui s’engage dans la gâche et bloque le vantail d’une porte. dans le bati. L’emplacement, le nombre, la forme et les dimensions des pênes des différentes serrures sont étudiés pour apporter une résistance optimale."

I've realised that these are probably not the pins used in hinge bolts: "fit and forget steel pins, sometimes called dog bolts that are fitted into the hinge side of a door leaf" http://thecrimepreventionwebsite.com/door-locks-hardware-and... but the actual hinge pins: http://www.renovation-headquarters.com/hinges-security.html#...

I believe the ST will have a picture of an UK-type inward-opening door, which, as the hinges are inside, not outside, doesn't need to have the hinge-pins protected, so this can only relate to hinge bolt pins.

disagree  GILLES MEUNIER: pêne c'est une pièce de serrure, non absolu
1 min
  -> Si, c'est bien une pièce de serrure ! Cf la citation ajoutée ci-dessus.

agree  Tony M: Yes, the 'pêne' is the 'bolt', and even though these are static not mobile, I believe this would be the correct term in FR.

  -> Thanks Tony

agree  FX Fraipont (X): yes, there are pins/bolts on the hinge side too. So even when the hinge pin is removed, the door can't be opened. The "hinge pins" can't be "protective pins for hinges"
17 hrs
  -> Thanks FXF. Note that the ST (which I found by Googling) has a picture of an inward-opening front door. Removal of hinge pins would thus only help a burglar trying to get out (not in). Outward-openers need tamper-proof hinge pins: a different issue.

disagree  Tony M: These are not any form of cover, they are sturdy 'bolts' to prevent breaking in the hinge side of the door.
