Un client allemand me souhaite à l'instant "schönen Feierabend". Y a-t-il une fête ce soir/demain en Allemagne ou bien est-ce un souhait "en avance".

Ce n'est pas une fête, ou c'est une fête se fêtant 5 fois par semaine pour les employés. C'est la fin de la journée de travail où l'on fête la liberté de la soirée (traduction mot à mot).
En fr., ce serait simplement " bonne soirée "

Bon comme souvent, on aimerait partager les points. Merci à toutes (tous), et notamment aux explications intéressantes de 3in1. Donc, voilà une "bonne soirée" et effectivement pour une fois je ne bosse pas ce soir! Je croyais qu'on disait seulement "schönen Abend". En tout cas, ça ne m'étonne pas de ce client vraiment très sympathique +:)

Veille d'une fête


Explanation:
Ce n'était pas si mal interprété, René. Seulement - le sens a changé depuis le Moyen Âge.
En allemand du MA, cela se 'disait' effectivement "virabent" (Vorabend, donc veille d'une fête, comme on a toujours "Sonnabend", veille du dimanche). On trouve souvent le même principe en allemand, on prend en compte ce qui est devant/après, ici le lendemain, pour l'heure, c'est l'heure d'après (halb 10 et non 9 h et demie comme en français).
Pour "Feierabend", ce principe s'est retourné. Le sens "après le travail" a pris le dessus et on a oublié que normalement, il devait y avoir une fête en vue.
