I did have to translate some of theses terms before and used 'system' where it was obvious that they weren't referring to an actual 'tract'. |

system Explanation: I think you're right, there is generally no distinction. The examples you cite where "aparato" is used can all translate as some sort of system: musculoskeletal system, circulatory system, reproductive system... I'd say that the term 'tract' refers mainly to a "void passage" so to speak Example sentence(s):
