I'm looking for a fluent (rather than a strictly technically correct) way to translate this phrase. It comes up in one of a series of texts (on a variety of topics) intended for bike enthusiasts but also aiming to be a general read about examples of innovation and creativity inspired by the humble bike (so it could be about art, design, comic strips, etc.). This one concerns a wireless gear-changing system devised by a British company and based on a smartphone app (see http://www.cambridgeconsultants.com/news/pr/release/114/en).

Il vous suffit d’introduire la fréquence de pédalage souhaitée pour votre entraînement sur votre smartphone et l’app règle tout pour vous. Le système fonctionne sur base du Di2 électrique de Shimano, d’un capteur de rotation de roue et d’un capteur de fréquence de pédalage. Les données collectées par les différents capteurs sont transmises par Bluetooth et traitées à l’aide d’un algorithme qui compare en permanence la vitesse et la fréquence de pédalage. **Dès que le rapport s’écarte du paramètre idéal**, l’application change de vitesse.

Above site says: 'When a rider’s cadence rate slows, the application automatically sends a signal to shift into a lower gear', which sounds nice and comprehensible but I don't want to plagiarise!

"As soon as" is better than "once" (first reaction!)

Not actually as technical as I thought - I assumed rapport was something to do with the gear ratio (dumb) - but of course it's the road speed/cadence ratio. I didn't use exactly this phrase but thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
