Dear all, how would you translate "poured" in this context:
The wind increased. It poured against the shop
with its deep, continuous sound of a river.
El viento aumentó. Fluía contra el taller con el sonido profundo de un rio.

It is a suspense short story "Footfalls" about Boaz Negro, a blind Portuguese immigrant cobbler, whose son Manuel is murdered.

Aunque uno de los significados literales de "pour" es "fluir constantamente" como si se tratara de un líquido, en el contexto del relato y aplicado al viento, yo lo traduciría como golpear continuamente

Explanation:
"Pour" se refiere a la lluvia (llover fuerte). Al arreciar el viento la lluvia pegaba lateralmente contra el edificio.

Algunas opciones más... unas más libres que otras... otras “unduly free”... pero por si inspira, allá van:

El viento arreció. Llovía a cántaros percutiendo intensa y continuamente contra el local, con ese sonido profundo e inacabable de un río borbotante...

El viento arreció. Diluviaba intensamente contra el taller con un sonido profundo, constante [continuo] de un río interminable...

El viento arreciaba. Llovía torrencialmente con la intensidad y constancia de un río imparable que se salía de madre al percutir contra el taller...

El viento arreció. El aguacero caía como una tromba contra el techo y las paredes del taller con un sonido profundo, continuo, como las cataratas de un Niágara inacabable...

El viento arreció. Estaba diluviando con una lluvia intensa que golpeaba contra el taller con un sonido profundo de un río interminable que parecía nunca acabarse...

Bueno, y lo que te mojaré morena... opciones se pueden idear hasta que se seque el cielo... o hasta que se congele el infierno... o lo inundemos “pa que no queme”... ;-))

However, I find hard to believe that the "wind pouring" was sounding with "a deep, continuous sound of a river".

In my view the "rain" is clearly implied...

Otherwise, "el viento golpeaba/azotaba/se estrellaba..." would be a way to express it... but I doubt that it would sound like a river... if it is indeed, just wind, without water...
