I guess this questions has become more simply, is there a standard to keep "intersex" as a category within translations from Brazil to the United States. While groups that identify as LGBTI in the United States (or in Australia, like the link Izabella Klein provided) would include intersex as an identity, it appears to me that more often groups identify as simply LGBT. This can be noticed in a cursory search of Twitter for LGBT versus LGBTI, where the frequency and recency of posts for the former is greater. In writings by and about indegenous communities in the United States, the term intersex may be used more often. I think that this is because this emphasizes that there are genders outside of a binary system, and although the term "Trans" can accommodate this, it has a history of refering "movement between" two genders and not "spanning of the spectrum" of gender. I thought maybe somebody on the .proz board may know if there is a history of this practice in Brazil and in translations to emphasize different conceptions of gender. I think I will take the suggestion of transl8_2 and contact somebody directly who is involved with activism and community presence! Thank you all.
