A “way shaft” can be considered a guide shaft. In this application, a shaft runs across the machine that has four slotting heads mounted on it. The “way shaft” acts as a guide to keep the heads aligned across the machine and to keep them parallel as they move into their commanded positions. - So I went with "eixo guia"

There is very little, but some, reference to "way shaft" in a mechanical context on Google. I suspect from what I saw that it might be a shaft with a bore to conduct lubricating oil. Is there anything in that context that might confirm this? But it might simply be a drive shaft between parts of the machine.

costuma ser um canal. No caso de uma peça mecânica, não seria "one way shaft" ou "first way shaft"?
Se você postar o trecho inteiro, com o termo utilizado, fica bem mais fácil encontrar uma tradução. Sem contexto, é "guessing".

A frase foi repetida porque há dois termos na mesma frase. Quanto à sua resposta, é "shaft" no sentido de "eixo" e não de "tunel". Se trata de uma máquina.
