In this case, as I had said, I wasn't happy with the literal translation, despite the fact that the evidence pointed to the Spanish actually having come from a literal translation from English anyway. But I suspected that English had not been the original language and since I wasn't dealing with the original, but a borrowed version, I wanted to express more clearly what I felt the expression meant.

I withdraw the implied criticism. You're quite right to vote as you see fit. I respect the rule and accept that it has a purpose. I don't want it to be scrapped (not that there's much chance of that) and find it difficult to see how it could be made to work better, since the criterion it involves is subjective. I regularly vote questions non-Pro if I think it's justified. I don't see this as a clearcut case for non-Pro; to me it's a legitimate brainstorming question for Pros, but I don't feel strongly about it. If it ends up non-Pro, so be it; no problem from my point of view. But if the question has no interest as a translation issue, then having voted and then stated twice that it's non-Pro, it's surely not worth spending more time on it.

The pro/non pro rule was created for a purpose, and I think it's very useful. If you don't like it, you should try to get it changed rather than making implied criticisms of people who respect it.

This whole pro/non-pro thing needs to be properly discussed in a forum. Maybe it's time to drop the whole split as it doesn't seem to be working anyway and is not consistently applied. In this case Noni has explained she's not feeling inspired and that's perfectly normal. It happens to us all at times. But I've decided, for the moment anyway, that I'm going to vote down nothing as some people seem to be getting hypersensitive about this issue. Does it really make no difference how you say it? Are advertising copywriters who brainstorm and agonise for hours or days over these things wasting their time? Perhaps they are, but I have my doubts.

I feel that the literal translation works well - its own independent identity - and if you don't like that, there's a hundred other ways of translating it, none inherently superior to the others. Most bilingual people would be able to come up with something.

Yes, my finger hovered over non-Pro... it's not a question of vocabulary knowledge is it, but of getting the mot juste in the other language... let's see if there are more responses.
