I came across "feuille bleue" in a French TV broadcast the other night and I don't know what it refers to. The actress Catherine Frot was reading a letter from a reader during France 5's broadcast of La Grande Librairie : Les 20 Livres Qui Ont Changé Votre Vie.

The letter writer is a woman who was in a bad marriage and ends up divorcing her husband "pour trouver sa liberté," taking inspiration from the book "Désert des Tartares." Here's the passage:

"C'est au Désert des Tartares, de Dino Buzzati, que je dois ma liberté. J'avais 30 ans et j'étais mariée, mais plus rien n'allait. En lisant ce livre, je devenais ce jeune officier plein de fougue et d'espoir. J'attendais l'ennemi, l'occasion de m'illustrer. En fait, ce livre me tendait un miroir, un miroir qui m'engueulait : 'Qu'est-ce que tu attends ? Vis. Prends ta vie à bras-le-corps. Sors de cette forteresse inutile.' Et c'est ce que j'ai fait. Un avocat, *****la feuille bleue,***** les parents et amis qui se désolent, le mari qui refuse et puis accepte, et enfin, l'amour, la liberté, le travail, la vie, quoi."

Je me suis dit que ça doit être la couleur du formulaire type pour les procédures de divorce en France. En anglais, on parle de manière non officielle de "divorce papers" (or "papers" tout court) comme dans la phrase suivante : "Jack's wife served him with divorce papers after she found out he was having an affair, where divorce papers are the legal documents from the plaintiff that notify the defendant that divorce proceedings have been initiated at the plaintiff's request.
