收棺

@Sharon: 雖然無文字記載證實，但是覺得老人家對 “收棺” 的理解，應該不會偏差太遠。

如果用廣東話表達，則有點像將屍體 “收入” 棺材裡面的意思，不會隨便將屍體掉到山上被野獸吃掉、或腐化引致環境健康問題；是對死人的尊重，對大眾安全的考量。

如我之前引用 “说岳全传” 裡面所述 “收棺盛殮”，即表達對去世的人一種尊重的態度。而廣東話很多詞語源自古語，所以個人認為“收棺” ＝ 將屍體放入棺木，過程中將棺木蓋好，或密封 （預備於喪禮上給親朋瞻仰遺容）、或上釘子 （預備上山安葬），也是順理成章之事。不過措詞方面可能在喪禮上或行文上，不能隨便説或寫出來，避免一些禮儀禁忌。

如果要更仔細了解，可能需要問棺木店或殯儀館人員，將會更清楚明白。

I've just asked several elderly people at a community centre here. To them, they also call putting the corpse into the coffin 收棺, while closing the coffin with nails is 封棺.
That's what they said, but I do not know how correct it is. So this is again just FYI.

謝謝 Sharon 很好的意見。

福建或閩南用 "出山” ＝ 出殯；廣東人則只用 “出殯”，出殯過程包括在殯儀館舉行有關儀式，然後會 “上山” ，即到墳場安葬。

當我參考 PK Chan 的建議鏈結時，無意中發現英國 Wiltshire 有條街名叫 Coffin Close。四個睡房市值差不多 30萬英鎊已經有買主。

我可以幾乎肯定，沒有華人會喜歡住那裡. :)

幾個月前參加一個喪禮，知道 open casket 比 close casket 便宜，因為遺體處理方面的功夫比較少。下面鏈結有更多介紹。謝謝 PK 指出這一點。

中國人傳統習俗大概都會在喪禮有瞻仰遺容一項，以便親朋好友在走之前可以見最後一面。很少會用 close casket。

As far as I know, 收棺 means 入殓 (encoffin/encoffining), and 出山 means 出殡.

PS: You may want to find out more about the background of the person writing this letter or whatever document it is supposed to be. I do not know about other dialects, but 出山 in Minnan dialect means 出殡 in Chinese. If it is the same dialect, as I wrote earlier, 收棺 usually means 入殓 in Chinese. (At least this is what the Hokkiens a.k.a. Minnan people over here usually say.) Hope this helps.
