This agreement may be enacted in one or more equivalent parts, one or each of these when taken overall amounting to the same total as the original (agreement)

"equivalent" = " of equal value" ; in other words, nothing is lost when pieces of the agreement are taken out separately then at the end added back to the original total value of the agreement in the first place; hence 'counterpart', often the translation for the question, wouldn't work in this context, as a counterpart is something which stands opposite to, or complimentary to something, whereas here it is an integral part of the whole.
