I have to kindly disagree with you ;) In my opinion, economics has explained over the years many laws governing the economic reality which is beneficial for the future. If you think it is similar to sociology try to delve into the Harrod–Domar model ;) I couldn't grasp it until the final night before my exam ;)

@All: I just sat back and enjoyed your exchange. We have a saying in English: economics is a dismal science.
A rich man asked an economics professor, "If you are so smart, why aren't you rich?" The response came back, "If you are so rich, why aren't you smart?"

Of course, economics is a science, and each year we learn how to factor in human behavior in the functioning of economies and markets, in particular.

Of course, I just wanted to "stir the pot", so to speak, but for me economics is really closer to sociology and the definition cited i my previous post covers it quite well. Just wanted to "chip in" to your exchange with Frank :)

Lots of interesting reading for me for this evening :) Thank you !
One has to keep in mind that the human factor plays a big role in the economic reality and, as we all know, human choices are not always predictable :) There are also too many variables in the real world and trying to include them all in economic models would make them too complex to give any reliable interpretations.

Harry Truman's wish could only have remained a wishful thinking. Economic laws nearly always have two sides to them. For me it is always amusing to listen to arguments given by politicians. Depending on which side of the fence they are they talk about different sides of the same coin :)
