Plusieurs défs dans le texte cité ci-dessus : Benefit und advantage of a good name, reputation & connection of a business. It is the attractive force which brings in custom. It is the one thing which distinguishes an old-established business from a new business at the start.

Goodwill is a property, an intangible asset and has particular value.

Tout cela correspond bien à l'idée de fonds de commerce telle que la comprennent la plupart des gens.

NB Wiki : Selon le dictionnaire Bernard, Colli et Lewandowski, le goodwill était traduit traditionnellement par le mot « clientèle » ou « achalandage » d'une maison de commerce. Le terme a revêtu une signification plus large en étant défini comme ce qui différencie une affaire établie et ayant fait sa place d'un établissement qui s'installe et à qui il reste à s'imposer (environnement et localisation, clientèle, réseau de relations et de correspondants de toute sorte, réputation, compétence, climat social). À la faveur des clients, on ajoute aujourd’hui l'attachement ou la confiance des fournisseurs, des employés et de l'ensemble des partenaires.

Donc à mon avis, si on parle dans la même foulée de réputation et de fonds de commerce, c'est assez clair.

neutral  Germaine: ça ne s'applique pas vraiment dans le contexte "website"; le cas échéant, on parlerait plutôt d'immobilisations incorporelles, il me semble. Avec la venue des IFRS, goodwill ne se traduit plus; c'est le même terme qui est utilisé en français.
