French term or phrase: Un faisceau explicatif
I have been working on a small textbook/reference guide for an independent film, and realise I am not comfortable with my English rendering of the expression "un faisceau explicatif".

The source language is French (Belgium).

Just to make matters more difficult (for me), the title is a chapter title of the textbook, and there only appears to be one other reference to the word throughout the text.

I understand that 'le faisceau' roughly translates as a bundle, stack, sheaf or even beam/ray depending on the context.

"D’un point de vue explicatif, l’on doit donc plutôt parler d’un faisceau de causes ou en tout cas de différents facteurs..."

I understand 'faisceau' in the above sentence, which I have translated as "...an array of causes..." - I'm open to feedback on this choice of words!

For the chapter title, I have gone for a very general translation which may be wide of the mark: "Explaining the factors." I realise that none of those words feature in "un faisceau explicatif" but I am unable to conjure up an appropriate translation.

Any guidance would be appreciated!

An explanatory thread

Explanation:
This is way outside my field but isn't this sort of chain of events referred to as a "thread" in books & films? It's a thread because the events are connected in sequence and it runs through the film/book. So, the thread of events is what explains to the viewer/reader what is going on.

Asker: Thank you for your contribution! Your idea certainly seems to carry the gist which I get from the context.

an explanatory leaflet

Explanation:
A 'faisceau' can also be a leaflet of some kind — cf. 'fascicule'

In your case, it sounds more like some kind of figurative leaflet, but maybe this idea will help you "think outside the box" a bit further...

Asker: Thank you for your answer. I'm not sure whether 'leaflet' would work in the title for the chapter, but I agree with you suggestion of this being 'figurative.'

Asker: Thank you for your contribution! On reading the context, I'm not sure of 'network' fits a suitable title, but thank you for your perspective all the same!

Asker: Thank you for your contribution! Your suggestion seems a little closer to what I think he title should be. Namely, that the section will be explaining various themes which occur throughout the film.

An explanatory ensemble

Explanation:
I think this would work, as it gives a sense of the elements that make up the explanation being linked, "bundled together" in a way I feel "faisceau" implies - and I always like a bit of alliteration! You could then use the same term in the sentence, "ensemble of causes".

Asker: Thank you for your contribution! I like your desire to use alliteration! And thank you for the further suggestion for the translated term within the sentence.
