An explanatory thread Explanation: This is way outside my field but isn't this sort of chain of events referred to as a "thread" in books & films? It's a thread because the events are connected in sequence and it runs through the film/book. So, the thread of events is what explains to the viewer/reader what is going on. |

An explanatory ensemble Explanation: I think this would work, as it gives a sense of the elements that make up the explanation being linked, "bundled together" in a way I feel "faisceau" implies - and I always like a bit of alliteration! You could then use the same term in the sentence, "ensemble of causes". |
