(a) preliminary morpho-semantic description Explanation: After reflecting on this a bit, I think another possibility would be to use the word "preliminary" in the translation. This is one way to explicitly handle the meaning of "attempt" that's suggested by "essai." Germaine alluded to this meaning earlier in the DBox, and here is an interesting entry from GDT: essai Domaine linguistique Définition: Ouvrage consacré à un sujet dont l'auteur estime n'avoir pas épuisé tous les aspects. http://gdt.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca/ficheOqlf.aspx?Id_Fiche=17588681 |

Description (of the morpho-semantic system)/Essay describing Explanation: Sugestion -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day22 hrs (2014-10-11 00:18:57 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- The typical "essay" is argumentative and not descriptive. That is why I prefer "description". But one must be reminded that terms like "narrative", "essay", etc. may have different meanings according to the context. |
