The person who had once painted pictures, written poetry, or composed music was now “no longer ashamed to fetch and carry, to wait on tables or make beds or empty cans.” Their best-outcome patients could be described “as good solid cake but no icing.”

Non mi pare che la metafora della torta possa essere mantenuta in italiano, suonerebbe anomala; ci vorrebbe un'altra immagine. Qualche suggerimento?
