English term or phrase: matchmaker
Someone asked me this the other day, referencing the grand dictionnaire's entry of marieur, faiseur de mariage.

As he said, having people meet is one thing, quant au mariage, ça c'est une autre paire de manches!

A matchmaker service would be service de liaison, perhaps? but an individual who enjoys matchmaking, introducing individuals to one another in the hopes a romance will result, what is the idiom for that?

Of course, in EN the term is gender-neutral, so one musn't leap to gender-assumptions based on sexist prejudices: there is nothing in the question to imply this is necessarily a lady.
The KudoZ forum requires us to post in glossary format, i.e. uninflected verbs and masculine singular nouns and adjectives.
